ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Chris Brown jailed for assault in Washington

Police said they arrested pop music star Chris Brown early Sunday and charged him with felony assault after a violent altercation outside a downtown Washington hotel.

Police spokesman Anthony Clay told AFP, that Brown was arrested “around 4:25 this morning (0825 GMT) in front of the W Hotel,” a chic establishment near the White House. Chris Brown Brown, along with a male companion, got into an altercation with a third man, and the incident became violent, according to police. Brown, 24, and his companion “were arrested and charged with a felony assault. .

A victim was taken to the hospital and treated for his injuries,” the police spokesman said, adding that the beating victim “had injuries to his face.” “They are still in our custody,” Clay said of the pop star and his friend, who was described by US media as the singer’s bodyguard. Brown is the ex-boyfriend of pop singer Rihanna, with whom he has had a tempestuous on-again, off-again relationship. He was arrested in February 2009 after getting involved in a physical confrontation with Rihanna that left her with a bruised and battered face..

He was required, after pleading guilty in court to the assault, to take part in domestic violence counseling and sentenced to five years’ probation and community service.

Ice Prince: My life took a dramatic turn when dad died .

From humble beginnings in Jos, Plateau State, Chocolate City’s wonder kid, Panshak Zamani popularly known as Ice Prince has grown to be one of the hottest and most respected rappers in the country. Thanks to his victory at the 2009 Hennessey Artistry where he came tops. And while it may all look rosy on the outside, Ice Prince has revealed that it’s not been easy after his dad passed away, adding that just like any street kid, he’s had his own fair share of ups and downs, and so fans should not be carried away by the glitz and glamour which has become his trade mark today. Though, born to upper middle class parents, the Oleku singer insists he was not born with a silver spoon, he and his siblings had all they desired until his dad died in 1999 and life took a dramatic turn! “I wasn’t born with a silver spoon,” Ice Prince told The Entertainer’s TONY OGAGA ERHARIEFE in an exclusive chat backstage during the 8th edition of Julius Agwu’s comedy show, Crack Ya Ribs held at Nicon Hilton, Abuja, recently. Dressed in all white designer T-shirt and pants with a muffler dangling around his neck, Ice Prince peered at you from behind designer glasses crested with a fez cap which gave him that clean cut look of an American marine but for his goatee. “My dad was not a billionaire, neither was he a pauper,” he said arching his bushy eyebrows to drive home his point, “he sent us to good schools and we had vacations outside the country; we were okay but in 1999 I lost him! “It was a big loss for me and my family. I was 13 and the eldest kid; I had a mum and two younger sisters to look out for and so I had to grow up overnight; thank God for family support.” Recounting the person of his late dad who was a soldier in the Nigerian Army, Ice Prince described him as a great source of inspiration and like every son would say, his father was a great dad. He said dad went the extra mile to make sure he and his siblings had all they wanted. “He was a soldier,” he states in his characteristic cool and calm voice, “he taught me everything I know today. My mum was very supportive but she died in 2011, so right now I am an orphan.” How does it feel losing both parents early in life? “It feels lonely! We were three kids; a boy and two girls and I am the eldest. I became the man of the house after my dad passed on and that has given me a sense of responsibility. It made me grow up overnight! “I am 27 but my responsibilities are more than that of a 27-year-old. I have to take care of my sisters. I thank God for elevating me. I guess I was called to do this (music).” According to Ice Prince, he would ever be grateful for the lessons he learnt from his parents, which have gone a long way in shaping him today. He says that while his dad taught him to be responsible right from an early age, his mum taught him to respect women. Once upon a star… From a tender age, music has always been his passion. Unknown to many, in 2002, Ice Prince and a couple of his friends founded the Ecomog Squad. However, they later split. In 2004, he came across the crew that would play a central role in making Chocolate City one of the biggest labels in the country. That was when he met M.I and Jesse Jagz and together they founded the Loopy Crew. Earlier that same year, the musician dropped his debut single entitled, Extraordinary but recording success was still a long way off. Kano Police Arrested 150 People For Sagged Pants & Sporty Hairs

Kano Police Force have begun to strictly enforce Islamic law. Last week, over 150 people were arrested for indecent dressing. Some people in Nigeria's second city were picked up "sagging their pants too low," or "sporting hair styles inspired by prominent international football players," a spokesman for Kano's Sharia Police, Mohammed Yusuf Yola, noted to the Associated Press. This strict enforcement of the Sharia law is a part of the government's discipline method and curbing immorality. Other civilians were jailed and fined for sagging their pants too low; the law sees this act as an influence of some American hip hop artists, which is unacceptable. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Kano state Governor gave this 'anti-crime' order to the police department, in his effort to purge the city of immoral acts and practices. The Sharia Police (Hisbah) Director, General Abba Sufi noted that this patrol or order will continue in the weeks ahead. "We have arrested 150 men and women in the past week, including prostitutes and their boyfriends, transvestites, alcoholics and those engaged in indecent dressing in contravention of the sharia legal code," Yola told AFP. Given that the governor is viewed as a moderate leader who has failed to impose the Sharia rules, some politicians see this order as his response. However, Yola, the police spokesman insisted that the operation was launched "to reverse disturbing trends in the city of some five million people and is targeting people of various faiths. Those arrested include Muslims and non-Muslims and we treat them equally because this is about morality," he said. Some of the arrested civilians were released after paying fines ranging from 10,000-15,000 Naira ($60-$70). The spokesman also added that the people who could not afford the fine remains in jail . He would not specify how many people are currently detained. I won't be surprise if several states follow Kano's trend and impose Sharia laws even on its Christian minorities. Four Arrested For Beheading A 5 Year Old Boy In Enugu

The police in Enugu State have nabbed four ritual suspects for abducting, beheading and cutting the private parts of a five-year-old boy’s before dumping him in water tank. This arrest is contained in a statement signed by Mr Ebere Amaraizu, the Police Public Relations Officer, in Enugu on Friday. Amaraizu said the victim, Promise Osakwe, was abducted by unknown persons at his home town in Aninri on Oct. 11. The deceased body was later found in a water tank, without the head, and the private parts. The suspects from Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State were nabbed in connection with the crime. In a related development the police have successfully rescued one Chinenye Onyia of Udi in Enugu State form the grip of kidnappers. Onyia was earlier reported by the husband as having been allegedly kidnapped by unknown persons on Oct.16, and was rescued in Gboko, Benue. The police gathered that the victim had been staying with the said James Terkula in Gboko “on a self arranged kidnapping” under the guise that the husband had not been taking good care of her.
